who we are.

Phi Lambda Upsilon, or PLU for short, is the University of Pittsburgh's honorary chemical society. We are devoted to "promoting high scholarship and original investigation in all branches of pure and applied chemistry" as well as providing outreach and social/ networking opportunities for Pitt's Chemistry graduate students.

Established in 1917

In 1917, a group of Chemistry graduate students at the University of Pittsburgh decided to join the honorary chemical society Phi Lambda Upsilon and form a Xi chapter. Since then, our chapter has been devoted to providing a society for chemistry graduate students to connect with other students, attend meaningful events, and receive travel grants for their research.
