Teaching and Professional Development

My professional teaching experience includes teaching both English as a Second Language and Spanish.  In addition, I  continually seek professional development at conferences, workshops, seminars and through professional associations.


TEACHING EXPERIENCE

2006 to present
        ESL Instructor
        English Language Institute,
        University of Pittsburgh, Department of Linguistics;
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
       
Teach all levels of ESL Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.
        Work with international teaching assistants to improve oral speaking and
        presentation skills.  Administered end-of-term Michigan proficiency exams.
        Administered and evaluated interviews of English comprehensibility for incoming
        international teaching assistants.  Participate in various extra-curricular activities for
        students. 

2008 to present
        Activities Coordinator
        English Language Institute,
        University of Pittsburgh, Department of Linguistics;
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
        Plan, coordinate, budget and lead 15-20 activities per semster for approximately
        135 students and 25 instructors. Activities include cultural activities, outdoor
        activities, overnight trips, and writing a weekly newsletter.
     

2004 to 2006
        Teaching Fellow, Department of Linguistics
        University of Pittsburgh, Department of Linguistics; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
        Taught first- and second-year college-level Spanish language courses for the      
        Department of Hispanic Languages and Literatures, assisted with the Spanish    
        Writing Center and "Mesas de Conversación" for student conversation
        practice, conducted computer-based oral proficiency exams of graduating
        Spanish majors, reviewed two texts for possible adaptation.

2001 to 2004

        Taught first-year, college-level Spanish language courses.

2001 to 2004

        Spanish Instructor
        Cuyahoga Community College, Metro & Western Campuses; Cleveland, Ohio
        Taught introductory and intermediate Spanish language courses as well as
        courses in Latin American and Spanish literature and civilization.

        Taught high school Spanish levels 1, 2 and 3.
