The W.H.O. Collaborating Centre for Cancer Control ( not exist now) was founded by Dr. Jerry in 1993 at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, a Division of the Alberta Cancer Board, the cancer control agency for the Province of Alberta, Canada. Through consulting services it assists countries to plan and establish and to evaluate cancer control programs. The Centre also engages in research on the application of management science to cancer control programming. It is associated with the Department of Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary. It has been involved in consulting and projects in Canada, Saskatchewan, Southern Alberta, Singapore, Costa Rica, Cuba, Vietnam, India and Pakistan.  

Dr. Martin Jerry MD PhD FRCP(C) FACP, received his medical and specialty training in internal medicine at the Universities of Toronto and McGill, and his research training in immunology at the Rockefeller University in new York. In 1971 he joined McGill University as a research Scholar of the Medical Research Council of Canada in the field of immunology. In addition to a laboratory research program in cancer immunology, during 1977 - 1992 he led the development of Southern Alberta’s current comprehensive cancer program, serving as its Director and as Professor of Medicine and Oncology at the affiliated University of Calgary where he was also involved in primary health care development in the Himalayas in India. His research interests have focused on both cancer control, and on the biology of host resistance in cancer, including the role of behaviour as a biologic response modifier as well as biologic therapies for cancer. He has published extensively and lectured internationally, serving on professional and granting bodies, including the Board of the National Cancer Institute of Canada and as President of the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation.
