Saprozoonoses are maintained in both animate hosts and nonanimate environments. An example is visceral larva migrans in children caused by the dog roundworm. The adult worms live in the intestinal tract of dogs and lay eggs that are deposited in the soil through fecal contamination. The eggs must develop further in the soil environment before becoming infective for dogs or people.
