This aquaculture facility takes in a veritable river of seawater to supply the 10-hectare ponds, of which there are more than 100. This generates a nutrient-laden river of water which is returned to the sea. Developing approaches that will allow the nutrients to be used to, on the one hand, grow useful biomass and on the other hand, clean up the water before returning it to the sea, is a major future challenge wherever marine aquaculture is practiced on this scale.
