The aim of research is to get useful knowledge for risk prevention.  The word �gnosis� is Greek for knowledge and "etio� is also Greek for  �cause�.  So diagnosis, causal gnosis and prog-nosis for patients corresponds to  �descriptive�, causal and experimental research in populations. The use of knowledge from research for the treatment of patients  is called the use of �Evidence Based Medicine�
