The PSDB performs its main activities through: identifying research needs to support new or revised PPE-related standards and regulations; making recommendations for NIOSH policy related to the approval of respirators, including innovative respirator features; assessing and transferring research findings into effective recommendations, especially applicable for new PPE technologies or special applications of those technologies, for NIOSH policy, regulations, and practices; holding public meetings to solicit stakeholder feedback; participating on PPE standards setting committees; and developing regulatory documentation, including assessment of financial and legal impacts for modifications to the respirator approval requirements of 42 CFR part 84.
