You see that the events seem to be somewhat independent of
each other in terms of whether or not an individual is taking their medication. Again we
find overdosing -medication may be taken four times instead of three – as well as
underdosing, where one event, two events, or all three events may be missed. Again
suggesting, at least as we look at this, that while beliefs may be very important in
whether or not an individual initiates, continues or drops out of treatment, these daily
kinds of events that get in the way are much more likely to be predicting the poor
adherence level that we see among those people who stay on treatment but have lots of
problems doing so. We also think that dietary adherence may follow similar kinds of
patterns. There are limited data on actual adherence to bouts of exercise, there're even
less data on eating events where individuals. So the opportunity to be non-adherent to a
single meal within a day, to skip the dietary event for a whole day, is all there. |
