Advances in communications technologies have brought renewed vigor to the concept of distance education. The Internet is one form of communications technology that has received much attention. While, previously, many educators thought of distance educat ion as being synonymous with satellite or video-based tools, increasing emphasis is being directed today to internet-based instruction.

What do you do with the Internet for teaching? I will address this question in the next series of slides. For the last 4 years, I have been involved in various forms of Internet-based teaching. I will draw upon this experience to highlight what I belie ve are the successes and failures of this mode of instruction.
