PROYECTO MACHU LLAQTA

The site

Machu Llaqta (Ayawiri) is a large hillfort located on a high, flat mesa in the western Titicaca basin near Lago Umayo.  It is one of a number of hillforts clustered around the small lake, sharing ceramic styles and visual connections.  With over 1100 structures grouped in discrete residential compounds, it ranks among the most populous Colla sites known.  It is also the most internally organized of known Colla pukaras.
