In this volume, regional settlement study in San Ramón de Alajuela, Costa Rica, is the point of departure for a comparison of trajectories of social change in several nearby regions. Murillo argues that substantial differences in the nature and pacing of these trajectories indicate that local forces were considerably stronger than any impacts they had on each other.
