Charlaine Harris began her writing career early. In fact, as soon as she could hold a pencil, she was writing poems. During her college days at Rhodes in Memphis, Tenn., she wrote plays.
Although her first book was published over 20 years ago, Ms. Harris broke onto the scene, for me at least, with my discovery of her Sookie Stackhouse novels. Sookie would like to be a normal, fun-loving young woman, but she has a problem. She can hear other people's thoughts. Then one day, a vampire walks into a bar... is this sounding like a joke? If you want the punch line, you'll just have to read "Dead Until Dark" for yourself. (grin)
