What do Engineers do?

Engineers apply different methods and topics such as science and mathematics to come up with solutions to problems presented.
These problems being solved often have to do with developing new products. Several factors are considered, and then the various components are designed and tested, then later integrated into a system. The final design is then evaluated for cost effectiveness, durability, and overall quality. If deemed sufficient, the product will move on in the process of being produced.

Engineers also specialize in areas of their choice, and depending on the area chosen, the engineer will be an expert at certain topics. For instance, if an engineer decided upon computer engineering, they would deal primarily with the design, application, and theories of computers and information processing.

An overview of careers in engineering can be summarized by this list:

  1. Computer Engineering
  2. Aerospace Engineering
  3. Civil Engineering
  4. Chemical Engineering
  5. Mechanical Engineering
  6. Electrical Engineering

Computer Engineering

A career in this area would combine aspects from both electrical engineering and computer science. This means that tasks presented could range from developing new hardware and components that make the computer run more efficiently, to creating and refining computer applications to create various computing platforms and applications.

I would like to have a focus on the hardware aspect of computer engineering because it fascinates me most. With a focus on hardware, I would look to develop new and faster internal components for computers so that the max potential of the computer in use may be reached. Additionally, with a focus in hardware, developing applications and software that will be able to get the most out of this new hardware is crucial as well.
