Patients are assigned through the School's Patient Assignment Office. Approximately 60% of the patients seen present with dental, medical, and/or physical handicaps. Experience in treating pediatric and adolescent patients is provided by treating patients from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. The AEGD Program works in conjunction with the Department of Anesthesia to treat patients with special needs.

Residents learn a team approach to dental care by working with the departments' expanded function dental assistant and students from the School of Dental Medicine's Hygiene Program who rotate through the AEGD clinic.

TYPES OF PROCEDURES DELIVERED

The patients seen by this program present with varied treatment needs. Being mainly an adult population, the procedures are consistent with what one would see in a general practice, with an emphasis on fixed and removable prosthodontics. The mix of procedures delivered by the residents during each of the past four years is summarized below (a complete listing of procedures delivered can be reviewed at the time of the interview visit).
