Group Information Executive Board and Chairs | Volunteer Information   Meetings Meetings are generally held in the evening as needed.  Our Next meeting is TUESDAY MARCH 8, 2011 in SHRS 4060 at 12:00 and 8:30 PM, All are welcome -- no need to be a member or a dietetics major!  Constitution Article I: Name The name of this organization shall be here and after referred to as the Student Dietetic Association of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. Article II: Purpose The purpose of the Student Dietetic Association shall be to provide a framework to stimulate interest and involvement of the students in the profession of dietetics. Article III: Objectives Program of Work 1. To provide service to the community and increase the visibility of the Student Dietetic Association. 2. To provide valid nutritional information to select population groups at high nutritional risks. 3. To provide seminar series on applied nutrition related topics. Article IV: Membership A. All students matriculated into the ADA accredited or approved programs (Clinical Dietetics SHRS) shall be eligible for the active membership. All students guaranteed admission to the ADA accredited or approved programs (Clinical Dietetics SHRS) shall be eligible for affiliate membership. All other interested students who are not guaranteed admission to ADA accredited or approved programs (Clinical Dietetics SHRS) shall be eligible for membership under the assumption that they do not hold the right to vote on issues within the organization. B. Membership shall be delineated by payment of a nominal due to the organization_s treasurer. Membership terminates upon graduation or withdrawal from the program. C. All members shall be entitled to make motions or vote on any issue brought before the organization, to participate in all activities and to serve on committees. Students who do not choose to become members of the Student Dietetic Association by not paying yearly dues shall not participate in activities funded by organization, except upon payment of an appropriate fee for each activity, as determined by the officers. D. Student membership in the ADA is recommended by not required. E. Students enrolled in the ADA accredited or approved programs will at all times comprise at least 75% of the membership. No hazing or illegal discrimination will be used as a condition of membership in the organization. F. For members to maintain active status they must attend at least 3 meetings per semester and take part in at least one organization activity per semester. Failure to do so terminates membership. Article V: Officers A. Election 1. The membership shall elect the following officers from the junior class from the Plan IV/V or CP programs: i. President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer ii. In the event that it is deemed necessary, the membership may elect or appoint any other officers to facilitate government in the organization. 2. The student officers must be currently enrolled and in good academic and social standing at the University of Pittsburgh. 3. Nominations and election procedures shall be in accordance with the bylaws of this organization. 4. A minimum of two nominations shall be made for each office. 5. All members are eligible to vote, including: i. Active members (ADA accredited or approved program) ii. Affiliate members (guaranteed admission into the ADA accredited or approved programs B. Duties 1. The President shall: i. Preside over and call all meetings of the organization of officers when necessary or as requested to the President by a member. ii. Appoint all special committees and activities in the best interest of the organization. iii. Install all newly elected officers of the organization. iv. Prepare an agenda for all organization meetings of the officers. It shall be posted five days prior to the meeting date. 2. The Vice-President shall: i. Assume all duties and powers of the President in the absence of the President. ii. Oversee all activities and committees. iii. Serve as delegate to the PSDA. 3. The Treasurer shall: i. Assume the duties and powers of the President in the absence of the President and Vice-President. ii. Take charge of the financial duties, keeping records accounting for all organizational funds. iii. Serve on all fundraising committees. iv. Generate and maintain official membership. 4. The Secretary shall: i. Keep an accurate record of the proceedings of the organization and its officers. ii. Prepare and outline a report of the activities of the organization annually. iii. Report the organization_s activities to the PSDA. iv. Keep an accurate record of attendance at general meetings and meetings of the officers. v. Compile and maintain a file of all organization business. vi. Maintain and keep within the ledger an up-to-date copy of these bylaws. vii. Handle all organizational correspondence. viii. Receive officer nominations. C. Assuming Duties 1. All elected officers shall assume duties following the first meeting in January. 2. The retiring officers shall install and orient new officers to their respective duties. D. Term of Office 1. These officers shall be elected the first meeting in January and their term of office shall extend from January 15 to January 15 of the following year. E. Relinquishing Office 1. Voluntary Resignation _ an officer may resign from office by putting in writing a statement to that effect to the President of the organization. 2. Unsatisfactory Officer _ The membership by a two-thirds vote of the membership, at a meeting which has been publicized at least 8 days prior to the meeting, may require the resignation of any unsatisfactory officer. F. Nominations and Elections 1. Nominations and Procedures i. The residing secretary shall receive nominations for a slate of officers at a special meeting of the membership to be held two weeks prior to election. ii. Nominations will be reopened on Election Day to honor nominations from the floor. iii. No person is eligible to be nominated for more than one office at a time. iv. A minimum of two nominations will be required for each office. 2. Election Procedures i. Current officers of the organization shall conduct an election from a slate of nominees at a meeting to be held within two weeks of the nominating sessions. The slate shall consist of those nominated at the previous meeting as well as those mentioned from the floor on Election Day. ii. Voting shall be had by secret ballot; to be elected, a candidate must poll the largest number of votes cast. In the event of a tie, a run-off election will held: balloting shall be had again on those two candidates receiving the largest number of votes on the first ballot. iii. All write-in ballots shall be valid. iv. A person is eligible to hold only one office. If he/she is elected to more than one office, the person must relinquish one office, and a new election will be held as soon as possible to fill the vacancy. v. When an officer resigns or is removed, the vacancy must be filled. The process by which vacancies are filled is the same as regular elections. The term of the replacement officer is the remainder of the current term of office. Article VI: Meetings A. Meetings shall be held at least once a month at the discretion of the officers. B. The President shall determine and publicize the date and time of the meeting an entire academic week (8 days) prior to the meeting. C. Meetings shall be conducted according to general principles of parliamentary procedure. D. Fifty-one percent of the active member status shall constitute a quorum. E. The membership may rescind any motion of the officer_s membership by two-thirds vote, a quorum being present, at a meeting which has been duly publicized for an entire academic week (8 days), provided no previous action has been taken on the motion. Article VII: Dues Active membership for each academic year shall be delineated by a nominal due to the treasurer. Dues for the academic year will be determined by the executive officers at the beginning of each academic calendar. Article VIII: Method of Amending the Bylaws A. Proposed amendment shall be presented by the officers at the general meeting of the membership. B. The floor shall be open for discussion. C. The amendment shall be passed by a three-fourth vote, a quorum being present. Article IX: Ratification The bylaws shall be ratified by a two-thirds vote of the membership present at the initial meeting. Article X: Advisor A. The advisor shall be selected from the faculty and administration of the program in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, by a majority vote. B. The advisor shall serve a one-year term, but shall be eligible for an indefinite number of years. C. The advisor shall act in a non-voting advisory capacity to the officers.   Past Events Event Photos Raising money for the American Heart Association on Wear Red Day.
