The predictive value of a positive test is how many of the positive tests are in people with disease (a/a+b).
Similarly predictive value of a negative test is how many negative tests are in people without disease (d/c+d).
And these predictive values will alter depending upon the proportion of people given the test who have the disease (the prevalence of the disease in those tested).
