Programs alerting physicians to the stresses of medical practice should be initiated at medical schools and in resideny programs. The goals of these programs are to provide individuals with effective ways to cope with stress and burnout.

Postgraduate medical training must also be re-evaluated and restructured to prevent burnout. Better working conditions must be given to house officers.

Medical societies must offer programs and conferences to help senior physicians. Such porgrams might be valuable to teach physician that asking for help is acceptable for them (3).
