Interesting Professional Societies

One Engineering society that exists in the United States is the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (or ASME). This society is dedicated to "promoting the art, science,
and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach."
As a result this society is not only multi-facited but it has numerous members throughout the globe. In additon this group is also responsible for establishing common codes and standards for mechanical devices, as well as conducting numerous technical and development courses each year.

- This societies membership includes over 130,000 members in over 150 countries
- Members of this society range from veteran members of the engineering community to prospective engineering students. As part of their mission statment, this group includes a large group of educators to help new and current engineers.
- Why does this society exist?
- This society sponsors numerous educational programs and opertunites to both prospective and current engineers
- Hosts a large ammount of yearly technical conferences and technical development courses. ASME also conducts one of the world's largest technical publishing operations.
- Is one of the oldest standards developing organizations in America
