Abstract: In this talk I intend to provide empirical and conceptual depth to the account of structural explanation formulated by R.I.G. Hughes and Robert Clifton. After an introduction to Hughes and Clifton’s account, the first part of the talk will be devoted to an example of structural explanation in quantum mechanics – the explanation of Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Relations. In the second part of the talk I will try to strengthen and develop Hughes and Clifton’s original account of structural explanation. Finally, I will outline the prospects of a further development of the theory, which I plan to pursue in the next future.
