Mechanistic Psychology and Cognitive Flexibility

Richard Samuels received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 1998 and held appointments as an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania (1998-2001) and a senior lecture at King's College London (2001-07) before joining the OSU Philosophy Department as a full professor in 2007. His research focuses primarily on topics in the philosophy of psychology and foundations of cognitive science.  More specifically, he has published research on evolutionary psychology, theories of cognitive architecture, the computational theory of mind, nativism, and the relationship between normative theories of rationality and empirical theories of reasoning. He is currently completing a book on cognitive architecture.
