PittSWE offers a wide variety of events for its members and others in the community to enjoy.
We offer events that are professional in nature, and also those that are more social. We are very involved in the Pittsburgh community and hold many outreach events
to help younger students learn more about engineering. We volunteer at additional service events throughout Pittsburgh as well.
You can view our currently scheduled events by visiting the Event Calendar page. Read more below to learn about our
great activities!

One of PittSWE's most popular events is Dinnerview. Dinnerview is an opportunity for engineering students to get acquainted with the job interviewing process. Engineering professionals and human resources representatives from local companies come to the University of Pittsburgh to talk with students over dinner. Following dinner, representatives are available for resume critiques and mock interviews. This is an amazing opportunity for students to make company contacts, improve their interviewing skills, polish their resumes and learn helpful hints on what to do and what not to do in professional situations.
PittSWE also holds Evenings with Industry, in which engineering companies from the Pittsburgh area come in and give presentations about their company to interested PittSWE members. Past companies who have visited include Schlumberger, Mitsubishi Electric Power, Turner Construction, PNC Financing, Westinghouse, and PennDOT.
PittSWE offers additional résumé critiques throughout the year, as well as interviewing skills workshops.
PittSWE offers events for elementary and middle school students. In the fall, students in grades 3-5 and their parents can attend Elementary Engineering Extravaganza (E3), an event that allows the students to take part in science experiments and allows the parents to learn more about engineering and the Swanson School. Two similar events, Middle School Engineering Day (MSED) and Girls Engineering in Middle School (GEMS), invite middle school students and their parents to campus. High School Engineering Day (HSED) offers the same opportunity for high school students. PittSWE also holds Girl Scout Engineering Day (GSED), in which troops and their leaders are invited to Pitt to take part in awesome experiments and learn more about engineering. To learn more about these and other events, visit our Outreach page.
PittSWE's mentoring program partners freshman and new members with a current upperclassman. Through a series
of social events, the mentee will have the opportunity to bond with an upperclassman and pose any questions they have to their mentor.
Past Mentor Events have included Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games, Pitt Panthers basketball games, bowling, and cookie decorating!
For more information about the mentorship program, or to become involved as a mentor or mentee, please email pittswe@gmail.com.
Through PittSWE's partnership with the Graduate Women in Engineering Network (GWEN), we are starting a mentorship program that pairs undergraduates with graduate students! If you are interested, please email pittswe@gmail.com.
PittSWE is always looking to get involved in the Pittsburgh community! In the past, we have volunteered at the Carnegie Science Center Engineering Week, Pittsburgh Cares-Downtown Beautification, Carnegie Science Center Girls Rock Science Event, and at the Ronald McDonald House. If you have any volunteer ideas for the members of PittSWE, feel free to send them to pittswe@gmail.com.
PittSWE holds bi-monthly general body meetings. Each of these meetings has a theme or discusses a certain topic. Past meetings have included an undergraduate student panel, relaxation and yoga night, Death by Chocolate night, and an ice cream social! Be sure to attend these meetings to get more involved in PittSWE.
There are many opportunities for PittSWE members to get to know each other throughout the year. Past events include a behind the scenes visit to the Pittsburgh Zoo, ice skating, Pittsburgh Light Up Night, and various engineering challenges. To learn more about the events we will offer this year, come to our meetings!
