Meet the leadership behind Pitt SDA.

Bio: Mona is interested in several areas of dietetics such as food science, nutrigenomics, and nutritional epidemiology. She has a strong interest in working for the food industry or at a university or research institution. Her research experience at Pitt includes working for the school of nursing’s SMART trial, the department of epidemiology’s SAVE and WOMAN studies, and for the Safar Center for Rehabilitation and Resuscitation Research. She also has experience working in quality assurance and sensory at Giant Eagle on several nutrition-related & product development projects. Her future educational goals include pursuing a master’s degree in nutrition and becoming a registered dietitian. She would also like to become more involved in the PDA, PADA and ADA. Her goals for SDA (2007) included: Updating and improving the organization’s website, planning a trip to ADA Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo in Philadelphia, updating the constitution, increasing membership, and helping to make SDA a more active organization at the University of Pittsburgh.

Career Interests: Go to graduate school for Masters in Nutrition, I would like to open my own practice and work in Sports Nutrition and Corporate Wellness.
SDA Goals: Increase SDA members and involvement around campus and in our community.
Experiences: Authored/designed Sports Nutrition section for STACK Magazine, Conduct food demonstrations, published work in Paw Prints “Healthy Living” section, participate in sports nutrition education for high school and middle school athletes, activities and life style coordinator for Physical Activity Camp for Kids (PACK).

Bio:
Kira Paris has been interested in the field of dietetics since her junior year of high school and came to Pitt with the goal of being accepted into the renowned Clinical Dietetics Program. She has been a member of SDA since her sophomore year, and became secretary of the organization during her junior year. After her graduation in Spring 2008, she plans to attend a 9 month dietetic internship program (hoping to stay in the Pittsburgh area) and sit for the RD exam. Kira has an interest in both community and public health nutrition, as well as clinical nutrition in the digestive disorders area.

Bio:
Alice Rajakumar is the SDA Treasurer. She is interested in a career in food science. She hopes in the future SDA grows and makes a direct impact on students at Pitt.

Bio: Jamie is serving as the webmaster. She plans on completing her four-year degree and moving on to graduate school for at least her Master's. She is currently interested in pursuing a career in food service or research.

Bio: Kim is a senior in the Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition program at Pitt. She is the service chair for the Student Dietetic Association. She has helped to plan events such as the spring Diabetes Fair in the quad, the Step Out Walk for Diabetes, and the university Wellness Carnival. She enjoys participating in SDA activities that get her involved in the major, benefit others, and allow time for fun with classmates outside of class. In the future, Kim plans to apply to dietetic internship programs in surrounding states. She hopes to have a career in community nutrition and teaching.

SDA Goals: To encourage continued participation of all members of the Student
Dietetic Association in various events so that the organization can
accomplish more together as a team.

Year: Senior
Bio: Trish is a senior in the Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition
program at Pitt. She is the community service co-chair where she plans
events such as health fairs and events with the American Heart
Association. In addition to volunteer work, Trish has worked as a
Nutrition Care Aide at the Reading Hospital, which has reinforced her
interest in clinical dietetics. After graduation, she plans on doing her
dietetic internship somewhere in the northeast and getting her R.D.
