Now, I want to talk about food in developing countries because this is where
the Nobel campaign is really concerned. To be honest, we don't care about
the U.S. or Europe or what they want to do. There is no shortage of food.
Look around outside you don't find a lot of skinny Europeans. Skinny
Europeans went away a long time ago. And so when I started to think about
where food is needed, it tends to be in the developing countries. This is
where you find young children who don't get enough to eat and don't get good
nutrition. You might think well, we can improve these crops using these new
precision methods, using the GMO techniques, where it is really needed in
the developing countries. Europe doesn't need them, so why would Europe be
against these particular methods that can help the developing world if they
don't need them in Europe? So why don't they do it? Do you think it could
be politics? Could it be money? Well, in fact it's both.
