Now there's a bunch of people who have changed their minds about this.
Patrick Moore, this fellow up here, he was the President of Greenpeace when
they started their anti-GMO campaign. He's now flipped completely and he is
totally pro-GMO. Steven Tinsdale, who used to be the head of Greenpeace in
the U.K., unfortunately is dead now, but he too switched his mind
completely. Mark Linus is the guy who used to burn the crops in England.
He was in charge of this. He is now totally pro-GMO and there are many
others, but the one I like the best is this gentleman from Ghana. He used
to be the head of the peasant farmers' association. He was totally anti-GMO.
He led demonstrations, he went around all over convincing people that GMOs
were dangerous. He took a little time, looked into the science, got himself
educated and now he is totally pro-GMO and he's going around telling the
farmers they really need this. And of course, what happens is when someone
from the country takes on this issue, both the farmers, the population and
the politicians are much more likely to listen than myself. I come in from
outside, well I must have some vested interest in it. But the locals, these
are the people who can make a difference and that's why all of you in this
room have the opportunity within your countries to make a difference and if
you can do this, you should. |
