Ideas and Comments on Various Topics (68)

Part of Her Body (1990) - statement of the clear facts from genetics that a fetus is not part of a woman's body, that a fetus is aborted exactly because it is a developing child, and that a woman has the responsibility to choose at the right time what to do and not to do with her body (1 page, PDF, 3 KB)

Magic Bullet Stress Calculation (1993) - After seeing the movie JFK, I asked a colleague who was also a metallurgist what he thought of the "magic" bullet theory. He said that he doubted whether the bullet could even have decelerated uniformly without deforming more than the "magic" bullet is deformed. The detailed calculation of the stress which would develop for a simplified bullet geometry with uniform deceleration is given. The conclusion is that the stress is more than a bullet made of lead within a copper jacket could withstand without severe deformation; therefore, the so-called "magic" bullet did not pass through President Kennedy and Governor Connelly and cause all of the wounds that it was claimed to have caused. (4 pages, PDF, 101 KB)

Tyranny of Laws (1995) - The people of the United States are living under a tyranny of laws, because it is impossible to know or understand all of the laws, and ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking the law, so every person is probably violating some law, and absolutely no one is safe from being targeted for destruction. it is always possible for a zealous government prosecutor to find grounds for criminal proceedings against anyone. Treaties and the Constitution (1995) - As James Madison pointed out, it is a dangerous idea for a government to be able to modify the Constitution which created the government. American Tariffs (1996) - A calculation of the amounts of five flat taxes which must be paid per hour when an American was employed in Pennsylvania at the minimum wage in 1996, not including the costs of complying with other taxes, rules, and regulations.
