Writing
in Engineering The Writing in Engineering program is a new initiative that allows experienced Writing Center/Composition faculty to work with Engineering to integrate the teaching of writing into classes that the freshmen engineers take. In the past, this interaction has been limited to our work with the sustainability conference, but in AY 2004, instructors will be going into classrooms to talk with students in addition to grading some of their writing projects. This initiative is an opportunity for us to have a further positive impact on the teaching of writing outside of English in the University. Beth Newborg will be coordinating the program and teaching one section of the course, and Geeta Kothari, Amy Murray, Janine Carlock, and Yona Harvey will each be teaching a section. Check this space for more details as they unfold. Here are links to PDF versions of articles recommended by the Engineering program as scholarship that has been important to their conceptualization of the new initiative. These are articles that we should be familiar with: A Process to Begin Integrating First-Year Composition and Engineering Teaching Engineering Students Their Own Discourse An Effective Peer Revision Method for Engineering Students in First-Year English Courses
