| Dr. J. Michael Campbell is
a broadly trained field biologist with extensive research experience
in the field of freshwater aquatic biology and plant community ecology.
He received a B.A. and M.S. in Biology from East Stroudsburg University
in 1977 and 1978 and his Ph.D. in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences
from Texas A&M University in 1983.
After a one-year teaching appointment at a small junior college
in West Texas, Dr. Campbell joined the faculty of Mercyhurst College,
a small liberal arts college on the shore of Lake Erie in Erie,
Pennsylvania.
Dr. Campbell has been successful in involving his undergraduate
biology majors in a wide variety of field research projects in the
Erie area, including numerous field studies at Presque Isle State
Park, a recurved sand-spit that encloses the harbor at Erie - Presque
Isle Bay.
Dr. Campbell has extensive experience in the training of teachers,
having served as the Director of Biology Education at Mercyhurst
from 1985 to 2002. He has also offered dozens of teacher workshops
on various aspects of biology for the Erie Zoological Society, Tri-County
Intermediate Unit, Erie County Conservation District, and National
Science Foundation.
Dr. Campbell has contributed to NASA-sponsored teacher workshops
at Pitt-Bradford for the past five years.
