Dr. Assad Panah is Professor and Director of the Department of Geology
and Environmental Sciences (GES) and Director of the Environmental
Studies Program (ES) at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Dr. Panah received his Ph.D. from University of Oklahoma, M.A. from
University of Texas, Austin, M.S. and B.S. from University of Tehran,
Iran.
Dr. Panah has been named twice a Fullbright Scholar, and he is
the recipient of three NASA Earth Science Enterprise grants over
the past six years. Dr. Panah is an invited Regional Leader for
a NSF Undergraduate Faculty Enhancement (UFE) Program where he is
one of 15 leaders nationwide. Dr. Panah has published 56 articles
in the fields of Geology, Environmental Science, Remote sensing,
and Renewable Energy. He is co-editor of three books by the Pennsylvania
Academy of Science entitled: The Oceans: Physical Chemical Dynamics
and Human Impact (1994); Renewable Energy: Trends and Prospects
(2002); and Science, Technology and National Security (2002). Dr.
Panah is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement
of Science (AAAS) and is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America
(GSA). He is a Board member of the North Central Region Mathematics/Science
Education Collaborative of Pennsylvania; Board member of The Twin
Tier Challenger Learning Center Organization (TTCLCO), Olean, New
York; and a member of the University of Pittsburgh Research Council
(URC).
Dr. Panah served as President of the Pennsylvania Academy of Science
for 1998-2000. He served as Secretary of the National Association
of Academies of Science (NAAS) 2000-2002; President-Elect of the
NAAS 2002-2003 and currently, he is the President of the NAAS.
