Josienne N. Piller is an art historian and the director of the University Art Gallery at the University of Pittsburgh. She is also on the faculty of the Department of the History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh, where she has taught American Art, Modern Art, Twentieth Century Art, Introduction to Art, Approaches to Art History (Abstract Expressionism), Introduction to Paintings, and Museum Studies.
Currently she is cocurating the exhibition A Sense of Place: Contemporary African-American Art. She has curated numerous exhibitions including Out of Time, Out of Place, Out of China: Reinventing Chinese Tradition in a New Century; Taking Flight: Selected Prints from John James Audubon’s Birds of America; Representing Western Pennsylvania: Three Centuries of Landscape Painting Cross Currents (Women Artists Past and Present).
