Freddy was born in Cuba and migrated to the United States when he was 4 years old. He grew up in Miami Florida where he enjoyed the sunny weather and delicious Cuban food. Freddy graduated from Florida International University where he did undergraduate research under the mentorship of Dr. Kathleen Rein. Freddy worked on the synthesis for photoaffinity probes to help study role of the production of brevetoxin B in Karenia brevis. After completing his undergraduate degree, Freddy decided it was time to get away from all the sun and experience his first Winter. He joined the Floreancig lab where he currently works on Re2O7catalyzed dehydrative cyclizations reactions for the synthesis of heterocycles. When he is not in lab, Freddy enjoys playing with his dog, going on nature hikes and watching all the latest movies.
