Current Research

I am actively engaged in research projects around the world aimed at documenting the timing, magnitude, and duration of droughts using lake sediment studies with an emphasis on the western cordillera of the Americas. I am particularly interested in the history of glaciation in these regions and how it is related to changes in water availability. As these research projects have matured it has become increasingly clear that human impacts on the landscape are far greater, and go back further in time, than previously thought and that pollution, particularly from mining and smelting activities, leaves a profound environmental legacy. My work is organized below by region and more information can be found by following the links.
