PITT ARTS Announces a New Free Visits Partner

To kick off their tenth year anniversary celebration, PITT ARTS is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Senator John Heinz History Center. Already all Pitt students with ID’s, part-time, full-time, undergraduate, and graduate, get in free during the academic year and over holiday break to The Andy Warhol Museum, the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, the Mattress Factory, and the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens as part of the PITT ARTS Free Museum Visits Program.

Starting with the Fall 2007 academic term, all University of Pittsburgh, main campus students will also be able to attend the Heinz History Center for FREE! All students need to do is swipe their ID at the admissions desk to experience more than 250 years of Western Pennsylvanian history.  At the History Center, students can access some of the most compelling exhibits including the current show, Soul Soldiers: African Americans and the Vietnam Era; recent offerings included the dresses and artifacts of the First Ladies; and the famed Lewis and Clark exhibition. Students also have the chance to step inside a 1790s log cabin, discover how immigrants shaped the steel industry of this region, learn about local sites of the Underground Railroad, and much, much more.

According to PITT ARTS Director, Annabelle Clippinger, “The opportunity to visit for free this gorgeous Strip District History Center facility rounds out the way students at Pitt can engage the layers of history all around us, from the natural history represented at the Carnegie Museums that shows us that at one time this region was under the ocean, to the social and cultural history of local genius Andy Warhol and his contemporaries at the Andy Warhol Museum; to the Senator John Heinz History Center’s glimpse into our past through such offerings as the multi-media Soul Soldiers exhibit that unpacks the role that African Americans played in the Vietnam War.”
