PITT ARTSPITT ARTS

PITT ARTS offers 40 multicultural programs during its 10th anniversary year.

As PITT ARTS begins to round out its 10th anniversary year, a full 34% of all of 116 PITT ARTS programs during academic year 2007-2008 featured multicultural offerings. From artists like poet Terrance Hayes, to dancers Urban Bushwomen and Compagnie Jant-Bi, to band the Carolina Chocolate Drops, to Srishti Dances, to the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and to shows like Ballet Folklorico, PITT ARTS continues to affirm its commitment to bringing forward the best in varied talent, while ramping up the number and types of global and fully enriched diversity programs in its range.  The variety and beauty of PITT ARTS programs also included performances by deaf percussionist, Evelyn Glennie, and by transgender musician Namoli Brennet.  Friend to Pitt’s Office of Cross-Cultural and Leadership Development, Annabelle Clippinger, Director of PITT ARTS, participated in the 2008 Dr. King Week of Programming Committee, and PITT ARTS co-sponsored with them, the visit of Collective Energy a positive-minded multicultural performance group from Penn State’s Paul Robeson Cultural Center.
