Isabelle Drouet
University of Paris
Spring 2008
Causality and propensities

March 2008

Isabelle prepared her PhD at the Institut d’Histoire et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Techniques of Paris 1 University in December 2007. Her dissertation deals with a number of questions concerning the relationship between causality and probability. She has particular interest in the propensity interpretation of probability and in Bayesian networks as a tool for causal inference.

During her stay in Pittsburgh she would like to go deeper in some of the questions that are tackled in her dissertation and, more concretely, to write one or (ideally) two papers out of it.

It is the first time Isabelle has visited another university and she finds it very exciting. She is eager to discover Pittsburgh and its neighborhoods – especially Fallingwater. Her more usual hobbies include reading novels and going for walks.
