The scope and limits of biological explanations of human behavior

Mehmet Elgin (Ph.D. University of Wisconsin-Madison) is currently Associate Professor of Philosophy at Mugla Unviersity - Turkey and a Visiting Fellow at the Center for Philosophy of Science, University of Pittsburgh.

Philosophical interests: Philosophy of Science: Especially theory - choice; incommensurability problem; Duhem-Quine thesis and its implications for the epistemology of science; laws of nature. Philosophy of Biology: Biological laws and their function in explanatory and predictive models in biology; creationism vs. evolutionary theory to the extend that it is relevant to general issues about theory - choice in science; biological explanations of human behavior; how issues concerning reductionism in biology relate to the more general questions about reductionism.
