Because of the serious health consequences of aflatoxin exposure to humans and animals, it is important to prevent exposure when possible. Aflatoxin exposure can be prevented or decreased by improving and enforcing safety regulations, changes in farming and crop storage practices, detoxification and other preventive measures. Both pre- and post-harvest interventions can be used to mitigate the health impacts of aflatoxins in humans and animals.
