1.The formula for the chi-square statistic is the sum of “observed” minus “expected” squared divided by the sum of “expected”.
2.The decision rule requires determination of the number of degrees of freedom (d.f.), which is equal to the number of categories minus one.
3.Table 3 in the appendix in the textbook shows the critical value for 2 degrees of freedom and type I error rate of 0.05 (i.e. = 5.99).
