What Kind of Jobs do Engineers do?
-
Research
Although this is a very broad topic, it can be more specific especially as it applies to bioengineering and to myself as a prospective bioengineer. At Pitt, one track for bioengineering involves Cellular Engineering. This is essentially engineering at the molecular level, it involves less principles from the other engineering disciplines and puts more emphasis on the biology and chemistry of the body.
Also, the result of research can lead other engineers of all disicplines to send their designs or own research in a different direction that may speed up the development of new technology or improve previous technology.

HealthCare
Bioengineers are very involved in healthcare at many different levels. Besides the research/medicinal side of healthcare bioengineers are very important in the design aspect. That is bioengineers design new equioment to be used in hospitals that either eases the doctors jobs or makes the experience easier on the patient
the SSOE actually has a program for just that known as DesignHub. in DesignHub, groups of engineers come together and a company, often from healthcare, comes to the group with a problem they have and need a solution to. The students are then responsible for designing some sort of apparatus to fix the solution. At the end, the company may buy tbe product and begin full production to the intended manufacturer.
