Research beginning with Michael Marmot’s studies in the United Kingdom and the work of the population-health group of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research has shown that policies aimed at improving health must expand beyond the health care system. It also highlights the need to consider many different aspects of child development in order to properly describe health.
