Picture of Diana GabaldonDiana Gabaldon met her husband in, of all places, the French Horn section of Northern Arizona Univesity's marching band. Go figure.

With a B.S. in Zoology and having written research papers on hermit crabs, pinyon jays and things in between, one wonders where Ms. Gabaldon got the inspiration for her stories. Well, the inspiration for the hero, Jamie, is pretty obvious — he bears a striking resemblance to her real-life husband. As to the rest, who can say?

Ms. Gabaldon's Outlander series currently consists of six novels, with at least one more. (Maybe two!) She writes stories in a spinoff series featuring the character Lord John Grey. If you haven't read her books, I highly recommend them. If I didn't know better, I'd swear she'd traveled through some standing stones herself to do the research!
