A dream came to Katherine Kurtz one night over 40 years ago; thus was born a series of novels that would inspire a cult following. Fifteen novels and three short story collections later, the series is still going strong, with a new trilogy in the works.
Ms. Kurtz earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Miami and entered medical school. After her first year, she decided she preferred writing. She sold the first book of her world-famous Deryni series, "Deryni Rising", and completed the other two books of the trilogy while pursuing an M.A. in Medieval English History at UCLA. Early on, her work was built upon the popularity of Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings," but it was not long before she established her world with its own rules, history and machinations.
