Hepatitis virus D is a 35~37 nm RNA virus. It is a defective virus, and replicate only with the co-existence of HBV. There are two types of concurrent infection: 1) Coinfection -- concurrent infection at the same time; 2) Superinfection -- HDV infection occurs on carriers of HBV.

The prevention of HDV depends on prevention of HBV.
